A14 Closure from Bar Hill 28th June - 1st July
Published: 27 June 2019
Following on from our successful the bridge demolition last weekend we now need to undertake a further weekend closure of the westbound A14 between J29 Bar Hill to J27 Fenstanton. The closure will be in place from 9pm on Friday 28th June until 5am on Monday 1st July. The Bar Hill bridge and roundabout will remain open but there will be no access to the westbound A14 from Bar Hill, local access between Dry Drayton and Bar Hill will be maintained.
We are very sorry for the short notification of this closure, which has been as a result of a genuine internal misunderstanding. Consideration has been given to delaying the closure by a week, but due to large events taking place in Cambridge over the weekend of the 6-7 July a closure is not possible then.
The strategic diversion route for A14 westbound traffic will use the A428 and A1198 re-joining the A14 at J26 Godmanchester and the Girton loop will also be closed to support the diversion route. We are aware local traffic will know other alternative routes, these will not however be signed as a diversion.
The closure is to enable westbound traffic to be moved to run on the newly built A14 between Lolworth and Swavesey. During the closure the existing traffic management barriers will be removed, the remaining layers of surfacing will be laid and temporary white lines painted.
During the closure access to Lolworth will be available as usual via the Traffic Management team at the closure gates.
This closure will only affect Westbound traffic, during this time the Eastbound A14 will remain FULLY OPEN between J27 and J31.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter and once again our apologies for the short notice.
