A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon

Published: 22 July 2020

I hope this message finds you well and that you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy the new A14.

Since opening for traffic on 5 May, some eight months ahead of schedule and just before the initial easing of lockdown (on 10 May), the new A14 has been playing its part in supporting the country’s journey towards economic recovery with nearly four million vehicles using it so far despite COVID restrictions.

Our 14,000 strong team set out to build a new road that would deliver many benefits to the UK economy, as well as for local communities and the environment, for years to come.  Along the way, we’ve worked closely with you and you’ve supported us in achieving our aim, for which we’re truly grateful.

With the new road open and offering 126 lane miles of much needed added capacity to the 85,000 drivers that use it every day, and work in Huntingdon progressing well and on schedule to complete by 2022, I wanted to share a new animation and scheme booklet with you, which are being published today.

Both are available via our refreshed website, also being launched today, at https://highwaysengland.co.uk/A14C2H (direct link for the scheme booklet: https://s3.eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/assets.highwaysengland.co.uk/roads/road-projects/a14-cambridge-to-huntingdon-improvement/BED20_0026+A14+end+of+scheme+brochure+FINAL.pdf).

Although we’ve worked very hard to minimise the impact of our construction work, I know it’s been a challenge for those living next to or travelling alongside it, so I’d like to thank everyone for bearing with us while we delivered these 21 miles brand new road for them. I hope everyone enjoys using their new section of A14 and all the benefit that it’ll continue to deliver in future.
